Oil Dilution Safety


Diluting Your Oils

Essential oils are very concentrated, which is why they are so wonderfully effective! However, with this being said, it is very important to dilute many of your oils, especially when using them on infants and children.

Some oils are considered "hot" and may be warming to the skin. Using a carrier oil such as, doTERRA's Fractionated Coconut Oil, almond oil, or any other vegetable based oil will help to reduce or prevent skin irritation. It will also help to spread the surface area of the oil, and make your oils last longer!

My general rule of thumb is 1 drop of oil to a tablespoon of carrier oil for infants, 1-5 drops of oil to a tablespoon of carrier oil for kids and 5+ drops for adults. I use 10ml glass roller bottles to make my favorite oils and blends, that way they are pre-diluted or pre-blended and ready to use! See below for a dilution chart I like to refer to:
