3 Ways to Use Essential Oils

Updated: Apr 21, 2022

If you have ever enjoyed the scent of a rose, you've experienced the aromatic qualities of essential oils. These naturally occurring, volatile aromatic compounds are found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers, and other parts of plants. They can be both beautifully and powerfully fragrant. In addition to giving plants their distinctive smells, essential oils protect plants and play a role in plant pollination. In addition to their intrinsic benefits to plants and being beautifully fragrant to people, essential oils have long been used for food preparation, beauty treatment, and health care practices.

Aromatic

Essential oils, when diffused, can be very stimulating, while others can be calming and soothing. Diffusing essential oils can also cleanse and purify the air If you do not have a diffuser, put a drop in your palm, rub your hands together, cup them over your face and inhale.

Topical

Essential oils are easily absorbed by the skin and many can be safely applied topically when used in conjunction with a carrier oil, such as Fractionated Coconut Oil. Apply to the area that is needed (ie head for head tension, back for sore muscles) or when in doubt apply to the bottom of your feet. The bottoms of your feet are the second most porous part of your body. If you are familiar with a reflexology chart you know that there is a spot on your foot that correlates to a part of your body. These oils are smart and so is your body. Apply the oils every 15 minutes or as needed.

Internal

Certain essential oils have a rich culinary history and can be used as dietary supplements supporting a variety of healthy conditions. Turn the bottle over and if the back says SUPPLEMENT you can take it internally, if it says INGREDIENT you want to only use it topical or aromatic.

When taking your oils internally you can put them in water and drink them, just make sure you are using a glass or stainless steel water bottle as these oils will pull toxins from plastic. You can also buy veggie capsules and make your own oil combo if you don't like the taste of an oil but still want the benefits.
