3 Ways to Regulate When You Feel Emotionally Charged

Feeling emotionally charged, triggered or reactive? Try one of these 3 tools to help release that pent up emotion:


1. Write it out - whether you're angry, triggered, sad or any other strong emotion, the process of getting it out and "saying what you need to say" can be super helpful. If you don't want anyone to come across what you wrote, rip it up or burn it.


2. Dance - the simple act of moving that energy out through our bodies can be a game changer. Put on some music that inspires you and get moving.


3. Deep Breathing - take a deep breath in for 6 seconds, hold for 6 seconds, and release for 6 seconds or longer. Repeat 6 times. When we are stressed we tend to shallow breathe and that puts strain on our nervous system. Deep breathing can relax the nervous system and reduce our stress levels or fight/flight mode.
